Pictured above is the 1937 Cord Phaeton previously
owned by the late William Finefrock. The Cord is currently
undergoing a complete restoration. As you can see,
the Cord is not as far along as the 1941 Cadillac that
was damaged in the same fire. To bring the Cord to the
standards desired by the current owner, a second Cord Beverly
sedan was acquired. This, combined with the owner's desire
to have the Cadillac completed first, has the Cord progressing
at a slower pace.
Work is currently centered on the completion of the body
panels, especially the right front fender. Upon media
stripping of the fender, we discovered poorly done
previous repair work. As the repair work was rather extensive,
we are trying to locate a better front fender from which
to start. Unfortunately, it appears the most commonly
damaged panel on Cords of this era is the right front
fender.
We have also had to do extensive repair and replacement
of the wood frame around the trunk opening. This has
been due in part to the age of the wood, as well as to
damage from the fire. Our on-site wood craftsman was
able to create new pieces and refurbish the originals
when possible. It helps a great deal to have a capable
craftsman on-site to repair woodwork when needed, as
each piece has to be an exact fit. This is especially
true of unique marquees such as the Cord.
Please continue to check back with us periodically,
as we will update the pictures and information to reflect
the current status of the vehicle.
