MAKE A GAME PLAN
Professional Automobile Restoration staff discuss
with the customer what the restoration goal is. Evaluating
what needs to be done and what parts are required
to accomplish the goal, a good faith estimate is created,
keeping in mind that you never know what you'll find
with a vintage car as work proceeds.
DOCUMENT
Project control is important so everything is documented
in great detail. All parts are carefully labeled.
A project binder is created consisting of a work log
and photographs. "Before and After" shots
are taken documenting each step of the process for
reassembly reference and documentation. Detailed descriptions
of each day's accomplishments and lists of parts and
supplies used are included.
BAG & TAG
Now the vehicle is broken down. As each part is removed
from the car, it is bagged and tagged. Then each part
is examined to see whether it needs repair or replacement.
Salvageable parts are degreased, sanded, sandblasted,
scraped, and/or washed as necessary.
RUST REMOVAL
When you get down to the bare metal, sometimes a
car that looks all right is full of holes caused by
rust the prime killer of cars. Rust damage
is repaired right away. Parts beyond repair are cut
out and replacements are found or fabricated. The
bare metal is then primed immediately to protect it
from rusting again.
MECHANICAL
Authenticity is important for mechanical aspects
of the vehicle. However, the main concern must be
that suspension, brakes, driveline and all other components
can operate safely and dependably.
PAINT
Our paint process continually evolves to take advantage
of the latest technologies in refinishing. We use
a state-of-the-art HVLP (high-volume, low-presure)
method and the turbine paint system.
INTERIOR
Inner beauty is important too and so, using the original
as a pattern, we carefully remake the interior with
authentic fabrics. When they are available, kits are
sometimes used for cost effectiveness.
REASSEMBLY
... is like working a gigantic jigsaw puzzle. Gradually
the body, frame, doors, fenders, top, top, wiring,
instruments, glass and all the other components are
joined together to create a beautiful finished vehicle.
